Introducing
Angie Edwards,
Technical Manager

At Bowlander we pride ourselves on being
more than just a supplier – we like to think of
ourselves as your trusted partner in the food
industry.

We talk to Angie Edwards, our experienced Technical Manager about her role at Bowlander.

What are your core
responsibilities?

In my role as Technical Manager this is played out quite
simply by ensuring everything, we supply meets the
highest food safety and quality standards. We were
amongst the first Agents & Brokers to become BRC
certified and as soon as audits became graded we
achieved AA and have maintained it ever since.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
It’s the customer collaboration across the vast range of product
categories that really brings the job to life for me. This means listening
to our customers to understand their specific technical requirements
and working throughout the supply chain to ensure these are fully
understood by all and embedded into our systems and procedures.

What are the greatest challenges
within your role?

I have been in the food industry now for nearly 30 years and I fully
understand the challenges faced by technical managers.
When you consider the range of product categories and technologies
we offer – everything from IQF herbs fruit & veg, to dried spices, blends,
sauces, dressings and all their various bulk and sachet packaging options the opportunity for technical learning and growth has been vast. With 12+ years of such experience under my belt it is always a joy to be able to share this with customers and to continue learning along the way.

How do you keep abreast of changes and
developments within the technical sector?

I like to ensure Bowlander is aware, prepared and protected and
therefore our customers are too. We do this by cultivating deep,
open and honest relationships with our suppliers, all of whom are
BRC approved and many of whom we have worked with for nearly
30 years. This means we have full transparency of all the supply
chains we are involved in.
As members of the BFFF we have access to up to the minute industry
guides and technical expertise and our regular horizon scanning
keep us ahead of any emerging issues.

What’s next for the food industry? What do
you see as key trends moving forward?

One key area of focus is sustainability. As environmental concerns grow,
food businesses are increasingly asked to consider their carbon footprint, energy consumption, and waste management practices.
Additionally, sustainability in sourcing – whether it’s using ethically
produced ingredients or minimizing food waste – will be essential for
companies looking to stay competitive. We are members of SEDEX as are all our suppliers and committed to working ethically.
We also have a range of herbs which are UK grown and we hope to develop this side of our product range.
